Sean Conway from Lavey, a small parish in south Derry, passed away yesterday.

Tributes have been pouring in for the young man, who was a member of the Erin's Own club.

Details surrounding his death are unknown at this time.

It is understood that the former University of Ulster student celebrated his 22nd birthday just a couple of weeks ago.

Representatives from his club posted a statement on their Facebook page expressing their condolences.

"Lavey GAC is greatly shocked and saddened to learn of the untimely death of our club member and senior footballer Sean Conway," the statement said.

"On behalf of our club committee, members, players and community, we wish to express our deepest condolences to Sean's mother, Deirdre, father Brian, brother Ciaran, and sisters Niamh and Aine, who both play senior camogie for the club, as well as his wider family circle and friends."

Following Sean's graduation last year, he went travelling and posted pictures online of his time in south east Asia, including riding on an elephant.

As recently as February, he posted a picture of himself and a friend at an Ireland rugby match.

As news of his death spread, people posted their tributes to him on Facebook.

One user said: "Rest in peace Sean, you were a true gentleman and a great friend."

A former college friend wrote: "RIP Sean, deepest of sympathies to the family. Went to tech with Sean, he was a year below me, both doing degree in business. We both helped each other out with assignments and anything we could. Graduated summer last year and had few nights out, which he drove. He was an absolute gentleman in every way."

Another posted: "RIP Sean, such a gentleman. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this tough time."
