The two men, both aged 23, and two women, aged 20 and 27, were arrested on Saturday during the course of a garda raid on two houses in Dublin 8.

Gardaí discovered heroin with a street value of €3,000, a handgun and ammunition, during the search on the houses at Eugene Street.

The individuals were detained for questioning at Kevin Street and Kilmainham garda stations under the provisions of section 30 Offences Against the State Act 1939.

However, the two men and two women were released without charge yesterday. A file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardaí say their investigations are continuing.

A spokesman said drug seizures play a critical role in targeting the livelihood of criminals and reducing their ability to carry out illegal activities.

They also help protect communities from the devastating impact of drugs, he added.
