But when a team of Advance Paramedics arrived at the house, the birth was well underway.
With the assistance of members of the DFB control room at Tara Street, who helped talk them through the birth over the phone, the seven-person team delivered a healthy baby boy.
Both mother and baby were doing well last night, according to the DFB.
Elsewhere, fire fighting crews attended a blaze at an ESB substation in Dublin's Inchicore.
