Five units of the Dublin Fire Brigade battled the blaze that broke out shortly after 7.30pm at the Kingfisher Townhouse on Parnell Street, across from the Rotunda maternity hospital. The building functions as both a café and B&B.

Dublin Fire Brigade said firefighters were scrambling to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring premises.

"It's a big operation. A lot of buildings are threatened," an official told the Irish Independent.

Gardaí cordoned off the area and traffic restrictions were in place. The cause of the blaze is under investigation. There were no injuries.
