An 18-year-old female pedestrian is seriously injured following a crash in Co Mayo this evening.

Gardai in Castlebar are investigating the incident which occured at Carrownurlur, Breaffy in Castlebar earlier today.

The collision occurred on the Castlebar to Claremorris Road (N60) at approximately 5pm.

The teenage girl was injured and taken to Mayo General Hospital where her condition has been described as "serious".

The female driver, who is 83, and a young male passengers were also transported to hospital as a precaution and no injuries have been reported.

The road was closed to facilitate a Forensic Collision investigation but has since reopened.

Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to contact them at Castlebar Garda Station on 094 9038 200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any other garda station.
