Even the downpour couldn't give Dublin fans the blues yesterday as they watched the action on a giant screen in the city centre.

Up to 200 supporters watched the drama unfold at Smithfield Plaza, with umbrellas and raincoats at the ready.

"It's more fun when it's raining," said Jay Deering from Tallaght. "We came here because we couldn't get tickets."

Others, including Liz Murphy also from Tallaght, had watched the 2013 win from the same place. She said: "We left my grandson's christening to come here, that's how dedicated we are. It's well worth coming out in the rain for."

Some newly-converted fans had come from further afield, including Georgina Regan from London.

"We knew nothing about it, we ran out and bought jerseys just this morning," she said.

For Noel Riley, from Cabra, the tough moments in the match were "any time that we weren't scoring".
