Dana brother jury out

THE jury in the indecent assault trial of a brother of former presidential candidate Dana Rosemary Scallon will resume its deliberations today. The six men and six women did not return a verdict in the case against John Brown (60) yesterday after more than seven hours of deliberations over two days.

The singer's brother is charged with five counts of indecent assault. Brown, of Lilly Hill Road, Bracknell in Berkshire, denies the charges, two against a child under the age of 13 and three against a child under the age of 16.

TEXT TAX SCAM WARNING

THE Revenue Commissioners have issued a warning to taxpayers after a text messaging scam attempted to gather confidential information.

The text message claimed to be from the taxation agency and told recipients that their tax refund was being prepared. It asked them to visit a fraudulent website where it's believed it attempted to retrieve personal information.

STAR FOR IRISH SCREENING

HOLLYWOOD legend Angela Lansbury will be guest of honour at the Irish screening of one of her most famous stage performances.

Ms Lansbury (88), who has lived in Cork for many years, will attend a special screening of a filmed version of the play, 'Driving Miss Daisy'. The screening will be in Ballymaloe Grainstore in Cork on Sunday August 3.

MISSING GIRL APPEAL

GARDAI have appealed for help in tracing a 14-year-old girl missing from her home in Athy, Co Kildare.

It is believed Teigan Mellor may have travelled from her home at Fontstown to Waterford city.

She has been described as 5ft 3in, with long black hair shaven on the left side, green eyes, and her lower lip is pierced. Teigan was wearing a black top and leggings. She was last seen on July 20 2014 at 8pm. Gardai have asked anyone with information to contact Athy Garda Station on 059-8634210, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

Our report on July 14 headlined 'Solicitor given bail after raid on 'boiler house' in the Irish Independent and on independent.ie, incorrectly stated that solicitor Brendan Looney did not hold practising certificates for 2011 and 2012.

It should have stated he did not hold a practising certificate for 2014 and that he did not file reporting accountants' reports for 2011 and 2012.
