But for a Co. Wexford couple, it proved to be a very lucky combination - making them €1 million richer.

Last Friday, the pair bought an €8 Lotto ticket in Pettit’s Supermarket in Gorey, Co. Wexford.

On Saturday, they shared half of the €2 million Lotto jackpot and today they collected their cheque.

“We’re still in shock,” said the happy winners who wish to keep the win private. “We’ve been playing since the game began but never in our wildest dreams expected to be sitting here in the National Lottery picking up a million Euro.”

The couple plans to pay some of their bills with the lucky win.

The couple shared the jackpot with a person who bought a €4 Quick Pick ticket in Raheen Foodstores in Limerick.

The holder(s) of that ticket has not yet collected the prize.

Pettit’s Supermarket in Gorey is proving to be a lucky store for National Lottery players.

Last July, they sold a EuroMillions Plus winning ticket worth €500,000.

This latest win brings to over €68.9 million the total amount won in jackpots by National Lottery players in Co. Wexford.

The largest Lotto jackpot win for the county took place in 2012 when over €7.3 million was scooped by a player who bought a ticket in Lawless Stores, Boolavogue, Co. Wexford.

Meanwhile, today a married couple from North Dublin collected a cheque for €350,000.

The happy winners won the prize in the Lotto Plus 1 draw on Saturday 7 June 2014.

“My Mum knows our numbers – she knows all the family’s Lotto numbers!”, said the husband.

“She watched the draw that night as she always does, saw our numbers come up and then phoned us to tell us we’d won”.

“I didn’t believe her!” said the wife.

The winners played their own numbers which make up family birthdays and anniversaries.

They bought their ticket in S&T Bennett Ltd, on Killester Avenue, Dublin 5.

The couple plan to pay off their mortgage and take a special holiday.

“I’ve always wanted to go to Disneyland Florida and swim with dolphins.  I want to touch them on the nose!   It’s always been my dream and now I can make it come true!” smiled the delighted wife.
