Councils optimistic over bathing bans
SWIMMING remains banned at one of the capital's most popular beaches after fresh tests revealed problems with water quality.
Dublin City Council said a temporary ban on bathing would remain in place on Sandymount Strand until at least tomorrow.
The council hopes samples taken yesterday will show that quality has improved, allowing swimming to resume.
A ban on bathing also remains in place at popular Co Westmeath swimming spot Lough Ennell due to a suspected sewage contamination .
However, a spokesperson for the county council last night said that tests "are progressing well" and they were "optimistic" the ban would be lifted in the coming days.
