A young Dublin teenager has had his jaw broken in a brutal attack that was witnessed by horrified children in Crumlin.
The 16-year-old victim was attacked with a chain by a gang on the Clonmacnoise Road at around 10pm on Wednesday.
He was left bleeding profusely from facial injuries and was treated at the scene by an off-duty paramedic until an ambulance arrived.
The boy was then rushed to St James’s Hospital for treatment to a broken jaw, facial lacerations and other injuries he sustained in the attack.
It is understood the youth, who is from the south inner city, has decided not to make a complaint to gardai however.
Witnesses described the shock as children ran screaming to their parents as the attackers singled out the youth.
“It was a beautiful evening and most of the neighbours were sitting out in their gardens enjoying the evening sunshine when we heard shouts and screams from the green,” said one man.
“There was this gang beating the lad with what looked like a chain, the whole thing was seen by the children and there was blood all over the lad’s face and on the road,” he added.
“It was just horrendous. The children were running to their houses saying they saw the lad being attacked with a chain,” he explained.
Witnesses to the attack are asked to contact gardai at Crumlin garda station.
