Gardai are investigating the discovery of a man's body in a burning car in north Cork.

The discovery was made shortly after 5pm yesterday evening in an isolated woodland area between Fermoy and Ballyhooly.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

While gardai are investigating all the circumstances involved, there is nothing so far to indicate that the death is suspicious.

A full post mortem examination will be carried out by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster at Cork University Hospital (CUH).

Gardai are still trying to confirm the identity of the deceased.
