Body discovered in search for missing lake swimmer

Gardaí searching for a missing swimmer in Co Wicklow have recovered a body.

A major search was launched on Sunday evening after the man, who was in his late 30s, got into difficulty while swimming in the Blessington Lakes.

Several units from the gardaí, coastguard and the mountain rescue crew were dispatched to the lakes near Lacken, Co Wicklow, to search for the man.

Shortly after midday the search was called off after garda divers discovered the man's body.

His remains were taken from the waters and removed to Naas hospital where a post-mortem is due to take place tomorrow. It is believed that he drowned

The man, who is from Templeogue, South Dublin, was enjoying the hot weather when he got into difficulty.
