The Policing Authority is set to quiz Garda Commissioner Noirin O’Sullivan over her alleged use of a private email account for work purposes.

The authority, which is due to meet with Ms O’Sullivan on Thursday, has said it is aware of media reports about the Commissioner’s email usage.

The use of a private account is prohibited for gardaí due to security fears.

It has been reported that a cloud storage account connected to her private email address had been attacked by hackers four years ago.

However, An Garda Siochána has insisted that her account was not compromised.

A spokesperson for the Policing Authority told independent.ie they are not in position to comment as they have not yet received any information on the issue from Gardáí.

But they added: “We will follow this up with the Garda Síochána and brief ourselves during the course of the week.”
