Army Bomb Disposal team render safe historic grenade found on farm

An Army Bomb Disposal team has rendered safe a historic grenade found on farmland in Co Cork.
The device, which has been identified as a Mills type grenade, is early twentieth century in origin and was used during the War of Independence, the Civil War and World Wars I and II.
The grenade was found on farmland by a member of the public.
The Defence Forces deployed the Army Bomb Disposal Team following a request from gardai.
The team arrived on the scene at 12.50pm before safely moving the grenade to an open area where it was rendered safe by a controlled explosion.
The scene was declared safe at 1.25pm.
