A WOMAN who was using a crutch to walk was assaulted in the early hours of Sunday morning by a man in his late 20s.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the assault which they said could have become more serious if a nearby taxi driver had not intervened.

The incident occurred at 2:30am in the Blakestown Way area of Blanchardstown, just before the N3 Flyover.

The woman, who is in her late 30s, was walking her dog when she was approached by the man who has been described as 6ft tall , with a Dublin accent and a chipped left front tooth.

He was also wearing jeans and a dark coloured hoody.

A taxi driver who was passing by the scene witnessed the woman being assaulted and stopped to intervene.

When the taxi driver approached the man he fled the scene.

Gardaí have said that the intervention of the taxi driver “undoubtedly prevented this becoming a more serious assault”.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, including the taxi driver in question to come forward and contact them at 01 666 7000
