An earthquake occurred in Co Donegal this morning.

The magnitude 1.5 earthquake happened at around 6.45am, on the Fanad Peninsula and the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies has said that people in the region even felt the commotion.

A DIAS Spokesperson said: "There are reports of this event having been felt in the area around Milford.

"Events of this nature are not uncommon in this region.

"The largest event recorded in this area was a magnitude 2.2 which occurred near Clonmany on 21st November 1994."

This is the fifth earthquake that has been recorded by the Irish National Seismic Network so far this year.
