A family has been left devastated after a young man was killed while riding his motorbike in an early morning crash on Christmas.

The man, who was in his 20s, collided with a metal rail after coming off the Crumlin Road, in Dublin, at 3.50am.

The incident occurred at the junction with Herberton Road.

Paramedics found the victim dead at the scene. He was transferred to Dublin City Morgue.

Gardaí closed off the scene to preform a technical examination.

The man, who was not from Crumlin but was from Dublin according to gardaí, was the only person on the motorcycle and no other vehicles were involved.

Local councillor Pat Dunne said it was an awful tragedy to befall a family on Christmas.

“I haven’t heard who it was. That’s usually a very busy stretch of road and at that intersection.

“For whatever family it might be, to have a tragedy befall them like that on Christmas, it’s horrific,” he said.
