As if completing a triathlon wasn't hard enough, the competitors at this weekend's Dublin City race had to deal with wild stags causing chaos on the Phoenix Park track.

This amazing photo was captured by Erik Scraggs and it shows the moment a stag collides with Dublin City Triathlon competitor Shane O'Reilly.

O'Reilly was left with a cracked helmet and a slightly damaged race time, but was luckily uninjured.

According to RTÉ, the 30-year-old was able to complete the race with a time of two hours and 25 minutes.

Speaking to Joe Duffy on RTÉ's Liveline, O'Reilly said: "My helmet (was) cracked. I was lucky I had it on... I got back on the bike and then sort of forgot about it until I finished."

He added that one of the racers helped him get back on his bike.

He said: "There was a guy beside me up. My break was a bit banged up... He helped me up and told me to go do the Lotto."

The picture has sparked mass discussion on Twitter, with one user saying: 'Deer hazards aside, this is the best place in Dublin to go for a run (maybe not a cycle!). I love Phoenix Park.'
