IT was the happy ending they had hoped for – a lost wedding ring has been reunited with its owner following an appeal in the Irish Independent.

Newlyweds Christy and Kay McGrath, from Nenagh, Co Tipperary, returned to Clonea beach in Dungarvan, Co Waterford, at the weekend to thank local Labour TD Ciara Conway and her daughter Aeva-May for finding Christy's wedding band.

The couple were on holiday in Dungarvan last month with their two-year-old daughter, Alicia, when the ring was lost.

He thought he would never see it again, but it was found by 11-year-old Aeva-May as she searched for shells.

She and her mum launched a Twitter campaign to find the owner and appeared in the Irish Independent last week.

They were delighted to be able to return the band, which was engraved with Kay's name.

"Christy was so thrilled to get it back and Aeva-May was thrilled to meet them," said Ms Conway.
