THE newlywed mother of missing teenager Amy Fitzpatrick has said that doctors thought she would die before she had the opportunity to get married.

Audrey Mahon wed her long-term partner Dave Mahon earlier this week. Mr Mahon (44) has been charged with murdering her son Dean (23).

Audrey told The Star newspaper how she has turned her life around since being diagnosed with a potentially fatal liver disease in 2013.

"They told me I had just three months to live," she said, adding that she was told she urgently needed a liver transplant.

However, Audrey said that she feels her illness was largely down to depression - following the disappearance of Amy in Spain in 2008, and the death of Dean two years ago.

She said her health improved when she started to look after herself better - improving her diet, and stopping drinking after her weight had dropped to under seven stone.

"I would have been dead without Dave," she said. "He kept me alive in the worst of times."
