THE hundreds of holidaymakers who forget to renew their passports can avoid a long wait to have a new one issued – appointments will be available under a new system which starts today.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has launched a new website which allows people to arrange an appointment time instead of having to wait all day to have a new passport issued.
Up to 300 people a day – and 600 in summer – make the trip to Molesworth Street in Dublin after discovering their passport is out of date and they are due to travel in the next 10 days.
They are forced to wait in a queue while officials issue a new document, but now an appointment can be made through www.passportappointments.ie.
