New website gives property tax help

Property values upon which Local Property Tax will be based are now available online

A website outlining indicative property values upon which a new tax will be based has gone live.

The rate of Local Property Tax an owner will be liable for will be set according to the value of the building.

The online guidance service provide by the Revenue Commissioners allows the public to see what value has been set on properties in their area.

It is designed as a tool to help people when they are completing self-assessment forms.

Owners will be able to designate a value contrary to that given on the website if Revenue officials accept their reasoning.

The valuations have been set using a variety of sources, including stamp duty data and the property price register.

The site divides the state into electoral districts.

Go to www.revenue.ie to access the website.
