Eight new schools will be built under the public-private partnership (PPP) process to cope with demand from communities that mushroomed during the boom years.

All the schools have outlined planning permission and, subject to the tendering process, construction will begin in 2012. The schools will be built, financed and maintained for 25 years by the tenderer.

The new buildings will be in Gorey, Co Wexford; Tramore, Co Waterford; Doon/Cappamore in Co Limerick; Ballinamore, Co Leitrim; Letterkenny, Co Donegal; Athlone, Co Westmeath; and a combined primary and post primary in Doughiska, Co Galway.
