New Legal Editor for the Irish Independent

Shane Phelan has been appointed Legal Affairs Editor with the Irish Independent.
In his new role, Shane will provide authoritative news coverage, analysis and commentary on the workings of the justice system and emerging trends and developments in the legal world. He will also contribute to our sister title online, Independent.ie.
Shane joined the Irish Independent in 2008 and has previously held the roles of Public Affairs Editor, Investigations Editor and Investigative Correspondent.
A native of Ballybunion, Co Kerry, he has also worked with the 'Evening Echo', the 'Irish Daily Star' and the 'Irish Daily Mail', where he held the position of crime correspondent.
He is a former ESB Young Journalist of the Year and holds a Masters in Journalism and a BA in Political Science and Sociology from NUI Galway.
