New appeal as victim of attack dies in hospital

A 20-year-old man who was seriously injured in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, in an attack before Christmas, has died.

Andrew Dolan, from Carrick on Shannon, Co Leitrim, son of well-known local hotelier Joe Dolan and his wife Rosie, was pronounced dead yesterday.

The young man had been rushed to hospital after an altercation broke out on Pearse Street in Mullingar on Friday December 23 at 2.40am

Andrew had been in a critical condition at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin after sustaining a serious head injury.

Two men, aged 21 and 20, and a 19-year-old woman were arrested and taken to Mullingar garda station following the incident. All three were then released without charge. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses who may have been in the vicinity of Pearse Street on December 23 between 2am and 3am to come forward.
