A nazi medal and badge are set to be auctioned off in Cork this weekend.

One of the items, a German Dog Handler’s Medal with image of an eagle and swastika is expected to go for between €180 to €250. This items includes a dated black and white photograph showing dog handlers and German Shepherds in action.

The second item is an officer quality Third Reich eagle tunic breast badge, expected to fetch between €60 to €100 during the auction.

These make up just two of the items up for auction at Dolan's Art Auction, which will take place in the Rochestown Park Hotel in Douglas, co Cork on Sunday. Auction house owner Dr Niall Dolan says these items should attract some extra people to the auction.

"They just stand on their own merits. With an auction house you never quite know what’s coming in the door. They tend to not have seen the light of day for a great number of years," he said.

Mr Dolan's not too worried that the items could be deemed offensive to auction, saying they are of historic value.

"The further you get from a period of history, the more it’s viewed as history. At the end of the day, they’re idiosyncratic."

The auction house own gets peculiar items like these, having recently acquired a bronze urn from 17th century, which depicted Irish tribes.

The items can be viewed all weekend before the auction kicks of at 2pm on Sunday.
