Mystery as 18th century sword found in school

AN 18th century sword has been found hidden in the back of a vice-principal's desk.

The rare find was made at Colaiste Sheosaimh in Glenamaddy, Co Galway, which immediately contacted the National History Museum.

The sword has now been examined, and historians believe it to be a continental sword from the 1780s.

Now history teacher Ollie Conway is eager to discover how it ended up in the school in the first place.

Mr Conway made inquiries with past teachers in the school, but no one could throw much light on how the sword ended up in the school.

The teacher and the National Museum are now eager for anyone with information on the sword to make contact.
