STAGE star Twink was forced to cancel the opening of a musical last night after being rushed to hospital with breathing problems.

The 58-year-old had been due to appear at Dublin's Tivoli Theatre in the first preview of 'Menopause: The Musical'.

However, the show, which also stars Linda Martin and Flo McSweeney, was cancelled after her agent said she suffered "an asthma attack" at her home in Knocklyon, south Dublin.

The show's producer Robert C Kelly said Twink would not be appearing in tonight's preview either due to her condition.

The performance will go ahead with understudy Nicky French in Twink's place. The official opening is scheduled for tomorrow night.

Rest

Mr Kelly, a judge on RTE's 'Fame: The Musical', said he first became aware of Twink's condition when he contacted her yesterday morning.

"She really wasn't herself which made me say to her, 'don't come in'. I told her to go back to bed because I felt she needed a rest before the show."

But he said that later on he had been unable to contact Twink before eventually reaching her 16-year-old daughter Naomi.

"Naomi told me she had called an ambulance for her mother because she had been struggling to breathe," he said.

Initially brought to Tallaght hospital, it is believed the mother of two was then transferred to another hospital for tests.

Her agent Noel Kelly said Twink, whose real name is Adele King, had suffered "an asthma attack".

Mr Kelly said Twink had encountered health problems when the show performed in Galway last month.

"Adele has very bad asthma which she struggles with all the time.

"I know the medication she has been on is stronger and stronger but whatever her problem she always manages to sing through it and be fine," he said.
