Father-of-one Errol Dunne (pictured) from Grangebellew, Co Louth, suffered a severe head injury during a fight involving up to 20 people in a pub in Clogherhead, Co Louth, between 1am and 1.30am on Sunday.

It is believed a number of men may have assaulted him and he was left lying on the road. A passerby phoned for an ambulance.

Mr Dunne was rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where doctors placed him on a ventilator in the hope it would give his head injury time to heal. But he never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead shortly after 2.30pm yesterday.

Gardai renewed their appeal yesterday for witnesses to contact Drogheda garda station on 041-9874270, Clogherhead garda station on 041-9822222 or the Garda confidential line on 1800-666-111.
