THE mother of a 21-year-old GAA star hit in the face with a brick in an attack in New York will fly out today to be by her bedside.
Police in the US are probing the attack on Alisha Jordan (pictured right), from Skryne, Co Meath, after a man smashed her teeth, broke her nose in three places and crushed her skull in the attack on a street as she walked home with a friend.
Yesterday, her father, John Joe Jordan said the family got a terrible fright when they answered the phone on Sunday morning to learn of the attack in New York.
"If they had got her slightly higher it would have caused a lot more damage," he said.
"There is no brain damage, which is the main thing. There are a few smashed bones in her face, her nose is broken in three places and the bone above her eye socket is badly severed."
The young Meath GAA star's father said she was walking back to her home with a friend around 2am along Katonah Avenue, in the Woodlawn area of the Bronx when the attack occurred.
