A woman and her three-year-old daughter were left terrified last night after four armed men broke into their house.

The attack happened at a house near Tara Co Meath shortly after 11pm last night

The raiders were armed with a small handgun, a knife and an axe.

They ransacked the house and took a number of legally held firearms, ammunition and assorted personal property.

They thieves also stole the owner’s car which was later found abandoned near the M50.

Neither occupants of the house were injured.

After the break-in, gardai searched a number of properties in Rathmines early this morning and recovered a number of firearms.

A black BMW car was also recovered which was the subject of a hijacking incident in Dublin City Centre on Tuesday 6th May 2014.

A 22 year old man was arrested at the scene and is currently detained at Terenure Garda Station under the provisions of Section 30 Offences against the State Act 1939.
