Two collisions on the M50 southbound this morning have resulted in tailbacks for motorway commuters.

The incidents occurred within 50 metres of each other between the Lucan junction and the Red Cow junction.

Traffic was very slow with delays backing up from as far back as the M50 junction 5 at Finglas.

Motorists had been advised to take care on approach and to expect substantial delays.

The two separate multi-vehicle crashes have now been cleared to the hard shoulder by traffic is still heavy from Ballymun.

Gardai have reported that there were no fatalities in either crash.

Elsewhere, a breakdown along the North Quays at Arran Quay before Church St junction is blocking the middle lane adding to traffic delays.

Emergency services also attended a traffic incident that blocked the right and middle lanes on the N7 at Newlands Cross.

According to the AA, the road blockage has since been cleared.

Breakdowns on the N1 Swords Rd from Whitehall Flyover to Dorset St and on the North Quays at Arran Quay further added to the delays.
