The M3 closed southbound in County Meath today after a single vehicle collision.

Gardaí have confirmed that a single vehicle accident took place at approximately 3pm.

One male was seriously injured during the incident.

The road was closed southbound between junction 6 Dunshaughlin and Junction 5 Dunboyne immediately after the collision. Diversions were in place while emergency services were at the scene.

It reopened after 7pm, with AA Roadwatch tweeting: " M3 Cavan/ Dublin Rd reopen southbound between J6 Dunshaughlin and J5 Dunboyne following a serious collision."

The same portion of the motorway was closed earlier this week due to an incident where cattle got onto the road and caused several collisions.

Elsewhere, the N2 remains closed both ways between Kinnegan and Castleblaney following a fatal collision at Clonavogy.
