Motorists warned as -3C forecast

ROAD users were advised to take extra care with temperatures poised to drop as low as -3C this weekend.

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) said frost and icy patches posed a particular danger in the coming days and nights.

It said if the road looked polished or glossy it could be black ice, one of winter's worst hazards for motorists. The RSA advised the public to check weather forecasts before setting out on journeys.

Met Eireann forecaster John Eagleton predicted temperatures would be quite cold this weekend.

The mercury will hover around freezing this morning following widespread frost.
