Motorcyclist among two killed on roads in separate accidents

Two men have been killed on the roads in last 24 hours.

A motorcyclist has died after a road accident last night.

The incident occurred at the Pigeons in Athlone, Co Westmeath.

At around 8pm a motorcycle collided with three cars.

The motorcyclist (26) was treated at the scene by emergency services however he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The road is currently closed to traffic and local diversions are in place.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have been requested to examine the scene. The Coroner has been notified of the death.

Meanwhile a man in his 20s was killed in a separate accident in the early hours of this morning.

The single vehicle collision occurred at Lurgans, Carrickmacross Co Monaghan.

At around 12.05am this morning a car collided with a ditch.

The male driver (20s), the only occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road is currently closed to traffic and local diversions are in place. Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have been requested to examine the scene. The Coroner has been notified of the death.
