Motorcyclist (28) killed after bike crashed into cow on national road

A man died after his motorbike collided with a farm animal in Co Meath on Monday night.

The crash happened on the N51 Navan to Athboy road just after 10.15pm.

The male motorcyclist (28) was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has been removed to the mortuary at Navan Hospital. A post mortem is to be arranged.

Gardaí say no one else was injured in the collision at Clarkes Cross, approximately two miles outside Navan.

The road is currently closed to facilitate forensics and local diversions are in place.

It is expected will remain closed until lunchtime.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and anyone who may have been on that stretch of road between 10pm and 10.15pm is asked to contact them at Navan Garda Station on 046 9036100, The Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
