The victim, who is in his 20s and from the north inner city, remains unconscious but is said to be "out of danger".

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition after being stabbed in the head and viciously assaulted.

The incident took place on Monday. A passer-by spotted the man lying in the bush, at the rear of St Finbarr's GAA club, Cabra, near Shandon Park, at around 3.30pm.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Mountjoy garda station on 01 6668600, or phone the confidential line, 1800 666111.
