Mother of TV chef Neven Maguire passes away

CELEBRITY chef Neven Maguire's mother has died after a long illness.

Vera Maguire, a mother of nine who was in her early 70s, died at her home in Blacklion, Co Cavan, yesterday afternoon surrounded by her family.

Her son Neven, who regularly appears on RTE and has won a host of awards, has previously spoken of how his mother inspired him to become a chef. The family-owned MacNean's House and Restaurant in Blacklion, was where he started his career before taking it over in 2001.

Her husband Joe died in 1999 after a car accident.

Mrs Maguire will be removed from her home to St Patrick's Church, Killinagh, Blacklion, at 7.30pm today, followed by funeral Mass tomorrow at 12pm.
