'Most loved lollipop lady in Ireland' receives a heartwarming send-off on last day of job
A Lucan lollipop lady received a heartwarming send-off on her last day in the job.
In a video posted to Facebook by St Mary’s BNS Lucan, Josie Brennan was honoured by teachers, students and parents after almost two decades of service.
The beloved lollipop lady was described by school staff as "an amazing woman" and "a major part of the life of the school."
Ms Brennan guided students across the road outside the large boys' school in Lucan village, South Dublin, for a total of 17 years. She worked as a lollipop lady at another school previously and is now set to retire.
Staff of the school told Independent.ie: "We have a school of over 500 boys and Josie knows every one of the children by name. She knows all their parents and child-minders and has built up great friendships with the staff and the families of the school.
"She has never taken one sick day in that time, she just loves her job and is so dedicated. She never complains hail, rain or shine and she has always gone above and beyond to ensure the children are safe.
"We have been so lucky to have her and we will miss her so much. She is definitely the most loved lollipop lady in Ireland."
The heartwarming video shows Ms Brennan walking through a crowd of cheering people, stopping to hug members of the school community and appearing emotional at the rapturous reception.
The school wished her well in their Facebook post and thanked her for her dedication to the job.
