Mortgage lending up
MORTGAGE lenders have claimed there is a 30pc increase in mortgage approvals.
A total of 1,093 mortgages to the value of €169m were approved during February. This is up 30pc on the equivalent figure for January, according to the Irish Banking Federation.
But there was a fall in the total number of mortgages approved when compared with the same month last year.
However, when top-ups and re-mortgages are excluded, there was a 1.4pc rise in the number of mortgages approved in February when compared with the same month last year.
This year, banks are on course to more than double the value of their mortgage lending in 2012.
