More women peacekeepers call
FORMER President Mary Robinson yesterday urged more female soldiers to serve abroad on peacekeeping missions.
She said just 6pc of Irish peacekeepers abroad were women, while the figure for gardai serving abroad was 18pc. There are currently around 563 women in the 9,369-strong force -- about 6pc. Mrs Robinson was speaking at the launch of a new national action plan to tackle rape and other forms of sexual violence against women around the world.
