Some 165 children with scoliosis are currently waiting for surgery in Ireland. These include 143 at Our Lady's Children's Hospital Crumlin and 22 at Temple Street Children's University Hospital.

RTE reports that of the 91 children who are waiting to see a consultant, some have been waiting for up to 15 months.

The Children's Hospital Group said it is working with the HSE to get treatment for those on the waiting list as soon as possible.

Orthopedic surgeon David Moore has said the longer the wait for surgery the worse the curve gets, and this raises the cost of the procedure.
