More snow delays feared at Heathrow

With more snow expected to fall on the hallowed runways of Heathrow Airport tomorrow there are renewed fears of delays and flight cancellations.

Irish business people returning home will share terminals with families hoping to get away for the half-term break.

Earlier this week, 133 flights into, and out of, Heathrow were cancelled and a spokesman for the airport predicts more bad news for passengers in the days ahead.

"If we had the same conditions again, we would probably take the same pre-emptive action and cancel 30pc of our flights."

Short-haul journeys to, and from, Heathrow are often the first casualties of the flight culls as those already on route from long distances away are given priority.

Irish travellers who regularly use the West London airport may now decide to catch a train to Stansted, Luton or Gatwick airports to avoid being left stranded at Heathrow.

Cancellations this weekend could also hit Irish tourism as large numbers of British families are hoping to cross the Irish Sea with their children out of school.
