THE number of people addicted to a cocktail of alcohol, cocaine and tranquillisers is on the rise, according to a leading drug-treatment centre.
As many as 42pc of clients at the Coolmine Therapeutic Community were addicted to a mixture of drugs last year, compared with one-third of all clients the previous year.
The revelation came in the Coolmine Therapeutic Community's annual report for 2012.
It saw a sharp decline in people abusing heroin in the Dublin area, but opiates remain the primary drug for the rest of the country.
The centre treated 1,000 addicts last year with new admissions rising by more than one-third.
In some cases, they are treating third generations of the same family.
