THE number of Canadian visas allocated to young people and the period of time they can work and travel abroad will double by 2014.
The agreement was announced in Dublin yesterday by Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore and Canadian Citizenship Minister Jason Kenney.
The number of working holiday visas available to Irish people between the ages of 18 and 35 will jump from 5,350 this year to 6,350 next year and to 10,700 in 2014, when they will be valid for two years instead of the existing one.
Working visa fees for Canada start at €115 per person or up to €345 for a family, but travellers must show they have a decent five-figure sum as proof that they can support themselves.
