Moment King Henry saw red

IT was the end of an era as the once-invincible Kilkenny hurling team failed to make the semi-finals of the All-Ireland Hurling Championship. And to add to their pain, star player Henry Shefflin was sent off shortly before half-time for a second yellow-card offence.

Our picture by Ray McManus shows the moment 'King' Henry's championship came to an end at Semple Stadium.

The 14 remaining men of Brian Cody's Kilkenny battled on to the final whistle, their air of invincibility finally shredded in the Thurles stadium. The final whistle saw the Rebels win 0-19-0-14.

After the match, there was speculation about the future of both Shefflin and manager Brian Cody.
