Missing pensioner located following massive search operation overnight

A PENSIONER missing in west Cork was located safe following a massive search operation.

The 82 year old went for a walk at 5pm yesterday (Monday) in a wooded area outside Bantry but failed to return home as normal.

The alarm was raised by concerned family and friends with locals searching woodland and farmland from 9pm.

It is understood the pensioner went for a walk every day.

A search party found the man in the early hours of this morning less than 2km from his home.

He was treated for mild hypothermia and taken to hospital for for precautionary observation.

Otherwise, the pensioner is understood to be safe and well.

Gardai paid tribute to the enormous support offered to the search operation.
