THE daughter of RTE broadcasters Miriam O'Callaghan and Tom McGurk was among a new batch of barristers who were called to the bar yesterday.
Alannah McGurk was called to the Outer Bar, junior counsels, following a ceremony in the Four Courts presided over by outgoing Chief Justice Mr Justice John L Murray.
Alannah, who is also a model, is the eldest of four daughters that Miriam O'Callaghan had with former husband McGurk.
A former solicitor herself, mother-of-eight Miriam is now married to Steve Carson, director of programmes for RTE TV.
Ms McGurk joined Charlotte Finnegan, daughter of Supreme Court Judge Mr Justice Joseph Finnegan, at the bar at one of the toughest junctures for the profession, with dropout rates for new barristers as high as 50pc in the first five years.
