A government minister whose home was burgled described the robbery was 'opportunistic' and he wants to put the matter behind him.

The home of Communications Minister Alex White in Terenure, Dublin was broken into last Thursday night.

The burglars stole a small number of items, most of which have been recovered, a Department spokesperson reported to independent.ie.

The items included the minister's briefcase, an iPad and an iMac computer.

No sensitive state papers were taken, despite earlier reports.

The raiders escaped in Mr White’s car, a silver Ford Fusion, which was parked in front of the house.

"No sensitive state papers were stolen and there is no cause for concern in this regard," the spokesperson said.

"The Minster believes this was an opportunistic burglary and he would like to put this matter behind him."
