Mick changes his tune with call to arms on tax scrutiny
TAX cheat Mick Wallace wants closer scrutiny of the taxes paid by businesses and wants to enlist Finance Minister Michael Noonan to "change how the world works".
Mr Wallace quizzed the minister yesterday on the US Congress committee's finding that Microsoft used Irish subsidiaries to reduce its US tax bill by €2.4bn last year.
Without a hint of irony, he recommended Mr Noonan read a book called 'The Betrayal of the American Dream' and quoted a passage: "The ruling class is defined by its ability to move money beyond the reach of government supervision."
"We need to change how the world works," said Mr Wallace, who evaded paying €1.4m VAT.
The Finance Minister merely answered that international corporation tax rates was an "interesting" topic.
